GM Swapnil has 7 solid points after round 8 as the standout leader. Meanwhile on second board IM Le Tuan Minh of Vietnam wins over GM Sivuk Vitaly of Ukraine, placing IM Le Tuan Minh in second rank after round 8 play with 6.5 points.
For Malaysians, FM Nicholas Chan lost on board eight vs GM Antonio Rogelio Jr and is with 4.5 points. FM Lim Zhuo Ren drew on board 10 vs IM Rolando Nolte and is with 5.0 points after round 8. IM Lim Yee Weng won against IM Das Sayantan of India on board 15 and is with 5.5 points after round 8. Top seed GM Koneru Humpy won against Miciano John Mavin on board 16 giving her 5.0 points after round 8.

Malaysia Men’s team lost to Andorra 1.5-2.5 in round 11 Baku Olympiad 2016. Malaysia Men – finished in 134th rank with 8 points. 3 wins, 2 draws, 6 losses. Sumant Subramaniam earned a FIDE-Master Title.
Malaysia’s Women team finished in 25th rank after round 11 Baku Olympiad 2016. They achieved 14 points with 6 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses. Nur Nabila bt Azman Hashim earned herself a Women FIDE-Master Title.
Congrats to the Malaysian Women’s Chess Team that improved the nation’s ranking tremendously from 66th to 25th ranked. Congrats to Sumant Subramaniam and Nur Nabila bt Azman Hashim for earning their FIDE-Master titles in Baku. Also to the Men’s unsung heroes for helping out the women’s chess team with additional tips and training.
17 Sep 2016, Kuala Lumpur – The 7th IGB International Seniors Open Chess Championship 2016 is concurrently being played with the 13th IGB Dato Arthur Tan Open Chess Championship 2016 and the 11th GOLDIS Malaysia Chess Challenge 2016. These chess events are part of the Malaysia Chess Festival running from 9th – 19th Sep 2016 in Kuala Lumpur.
